Dear GCS Families,

Our GCS Homecoming night was a great success.  We enjoyed great fellowship as we welcomed our 2015 & 2016 GCS Boys Soccer State Championship Teams and their families back to Soldier Field. The Lord blessed us with a beautiful autumn evening, joyful reunions of alumni, and recognition of the gifts of our GCS students and athletes.

A special thank you to the GCS staff, students and parents who helped make the evening special. The spirit of joy and unity is a testament to the great community we have at GCS. Go Soldiers!

Sweetest Day Orders 

Sweetest Day is approaching quickly!  You can order a candy bar, sucker, or flower for your child, grandchild, friend, or teacher.  The deadline for orders is Monday, October 5th.  Deliveries will be made on Friday, October 16th. Forms went home with students today. Thank you for supporting the Junior class!

Picture Retake Day- Date coming soon
Picture packages will be delivered mid-October.  Picture retakes will be scheduled for late October. Students who were absent on our original picture day will have their picture taken on retake day.

No Preschool – Teachers’ Convention

There will be no Preschool October 1 & 2 due to our teachers being gone. There will be a sign up sheet for daycare only.

There is no school Oct 1-2 or slush this week. 

 

Fall Weather Approaching 

Because of the cooler mornings, the grass is wet for morning gym classes and recess.  Please send an extra pair of socks with your child.

Parent Teacher Conferences- Oct 22

There will be no school for students on Thursday, October 22. More information is coming soon about appointment times. Stay tuned!

Homecoming

Congratulations to the 2026 Homecoming King Jonas Brabson and Queen Sydney Flory. We appreciate all of our class representatives and their part in the Homecoming events.  Also, congratulations to the Class of 2028 for winning this year’s Spirit Cup Award. It was a great Homecoming week!

 

Middle & High School Parent Teacher Conferences – October 22, 2026

On Thursday, October 22nd  there will be no school for students.

Conferences will be 10:00-12:00, 1:00-4:30, and 5:30–7:00 p.m. 

Each parent who wishes to meet with a teacher may do so on a first-come, first-served basis at the Middle/HS.  We are asking that parents keep meeting times to 5 minutes per conference. This should allow parents to speak with each teacher regarding their student’s grades/progress and will keep waiting time to a minimum.  

PSAT Testing – Juniors

Juniors will be taking the PSAT test on Wednesday morning, October 7th.  Please be sure to be in attendance on that day.  Students should be in the cafeteria by 8:10 a.m. – please be on time as late comers will not be allowed into the testing room.

Junior And Senior Parent Meeting

The meeting for Juniors, Seniors, and their parents has been scheduled for October 22nd at 7pm in the HS cafeteria.  Please plan to attend this meeting as we will be covering many important details for Juniors and Seniors:

  • GCS events for Juniors and Seniors (fundraisers, senior trip, etc.)
  • College application process – FAFSA, College Board, class selection, etc.
  • Options for paying for college
  • Deadlines – AP testing, Jostens, final transcripts, etc…

 

Drivers Training

Washington DC Trip

The next $200 payment, per participant, is due Oct 9.

Team & Individual Sports Soccer & Cross Country Picture Schedule Tuesday, 9/29 

  • JH Boys Soccer 3:15  @ El. Field  (Home game @ 4pm- remember your uniforms)
  • Varsity Soccer 3:30 @ El Field  (away game @ 7pm – remember your uniforms)
  • All Cross Country Teams 3:45 @ El Fields (no meets- remember your uniforms)

We ask that all players be in the team picture which is used for the yearbook.  Individual pictures will only be taken if you tell the photographer you are ordering and hand them a completed order form.  Order forms are available on the GCS school website under athletic tab: use this access link SportsPhotoForm

 

The athletic department appreciates your help in making our home games a success. At each home game, our Soldiers need volunteers. We need volunteers for the admission gate and oftentimes running the game clock.

Girls Jet League Basketball Program

Practices on Mondays & Fridays 3:30-5:00 in the El. Gym.

No Practice:  Friday 10/2 – no school due to teacher convention

Sports Fee of $75 is due on Friday, October 2nd. Cash or check is accepted. Checks are payable to GCS.

Sports Fee

Each student-athlete must pay the following sports fee per sport/per season. These fees should be turned in by cash or check made payable to GCS to the Athletic Office before the first game.

 ➽➽Varsity – $175.00   ➽➽JV – $150.00  ➽➽  Junior High – $125.00   ➽➽  Jet League – $75.00

Athletic Physicals🩺

For the 2026-27 school year, an MHSAA sports physical is required for all students who participate in sports. A physical examination must be completed on or after April 15, 2026 to be considered a valid physical for 2026-27. – This applies to any students participating in high school and middle school sports.

Students planning to participate in athletics MUST have this physical form on file by the first day of practice. Forms must be on file at the school athletic office before try-outs, practices, or games.
